Lumbar spinal stenosis is an increasingly common disorder affecting the aging population with patients experiencing reduced mobility and chronic leg and back pain. Decompressive laminectomy is considered the gold standard surgical treatment when conservative options are exhausted. Direct surgical decompression of the neural structures with laminectomy has been shown to offer superior clinical benefit compared with continued nonoperative care; however, the procedure is not without risks.
